Winter of 2011-12 Adventures

We have had a great winter.  The weather has been very good with warm temperatures and little rain.  No rain meant very few wildflowers this spring but I guess you can’t have everything.  We have had a few visitors this winter.  In November my brother and sister-in-law were here.  We had a great time and took several drives to see the sights.

In February Pat’s sister came for a visit and we drove to the east side of the Phoenix area.  We first stopped to see the worlds tallest fountain in where else but Fountain Hills, AZ.

We continued east to visit the Roosevelt Lake area.

On another trip we drove west of Gila Bend to an area with petroglyphs on the rocks.

One of our great experiences this winter was a trip to downtown Phoenix to a concert by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra.  It had been 40 years since the choir had been in this area and they brought the entire 360 members.  This is one of the world’s great choirs and the sound was wonderful.  They did not allow cameras in the building so I took this picture from the newspaper.

As we usually do, we invited some friends to Christmas diner.  Good food plus good friends make for a great time.

On of our more unique adventures this winter was a trip to the Phoenix Zoo.  During the Christmas season they have a display called the Zoo Lights. I am sorry for the quality of the pictures.  I found that it was very difficult to take pictures in the dark but perhaps you can get some idea of what it was like.

We will be leaving Surprise sometime toward the end of April.  It looks as if we will spend the the summer in the high country of New Mexico and Colorado.  Because of the high fuel prices and because Pat will be flying back to Indiana the first part of September making a shorter traveling season,  we decided to not put on very many miles this summer.  We think that a trip back to some of our favorite places will be fun.
