2022 Spring and Summer

We left Surprise in April.  We spent a few weeks near Cottonwood, AZ, a week in Kanab, UT and moved to Escalante, UT,  a small town in the middle of nowhere.  Just the kind of place we like.

Our RV site in Escalante where we spent a month.

Escalante sits on the northern edge of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, a vast remote  area of mountains, canyons and desert in south central Utah.

Perhaps not the wisest place to park

Views from the bridge.  I was not able to get a photo of the bridge itself.

An area called the Devil's Garden

Hole in the Rock Road.  55 miles, one way, of gravel road

Along the Burr Trail, an old cattle driving route from near Escalante to the Colorado River

The mountains in the background are the Henry Mountains.  Because of its isolation, this was the last mountain range in the lower 48 to be explored and mapped.

No one knows for sure how the spires were formed.  The best guess, in my opinion, is that they are deposits left by old springs that were harder than the surrounding rock that was eroded away.

It was starting to get hot in Utah so we headed towards Wyoming.  Along the way, we stopped for a few days, in northeast Utah, at a forest service campground in the Uinta Mountains.

We will continue with our Wyoming travels on our next post.
