From Chama we traveled to Gunnison CO, another one of our favorite places. We spent most of the month of July there. Our second most favorite activity, after eating of course, is driving back roads and four wheel drive trails. Any of the four directions out of Gunnison leads to hundreds of miles of some of the most splendid scenery in the country.
It is always an added bonus to come upon old ghost towns.
There seems to be a dam problem here.
This ghost town named Carson is located up ( and I mean up) a rough four wheel drive trail. It is privately owned and the owner replaced the roofs to protect the buildings. It is hard to believe that at one time, hundreds of people live here. The next 3 photos are in the area of this town,
If you look closely, you can see the town at the edge of the trees just to the right of the ponds.
Just more incredible scenery not far from Gunnison.
Above the timber line ( the elevation above which trees cannot grow.)
West of Gunnison is the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. We visited the less traveled north side.
We were lucky that this was one of the best wildflower years. There were just flowers everywhere.
